Description:
Students in this basic monotype printing course will have the opportunity to create singular prints using oil based inks while learning how to use a printing press. The emphasis is on the fun, and surprising results that occur when one prints on a press, one print at a time. The first class begins with a quick demo, then on to each person doing some prints. The second class the students learn about "double drop", putting the first print through the press a second time. And the third meeting the students will explore "chine colle"; a kind of collage+print combination.
Instructor uses oil paints as ink, but students may prefer to bring their own. Large sheets of Rives BFK for sale ($3.79 per sheet) which is the best paper for this process. Bring rubber gloves for cleanup, and a roll of paper towels.

PRINTMAKING INDEPENDENT STUDY
Want to work independently? Experienced printers can work independently and have access to the studio. Whelan press available, flat file for storage, lots of table space, peace and quiet. 9 hours a week max.
8 week requirement available on a rolling basis.
